Nutrition and Feeding of Children with Cerebral Palsy to improve their well-being life.

UNAC organizes training workshops of parents/Caregiver of children with cerebral palsy ageing 3 to 12 years on Nutrition and feeding positioning. Cerebral palsy is often associated with growth and nutrition disorders. Inadequate nutrition can lead to serious health problems as children grow up. If a child has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, it is important to talk to the medical provider about how to monitor their nutrition and ensure they receive a well-balanced diet. Children with cerebral palsy often have difficulty with feeding. This is due to issues with the muscles responsible for chewing and swallowing. According to doctor (Dr. Luboobi Haidari from Rose Academy Uganda) explained to the parents/caregivers that many children with cerebral palsy suffers from Oral-motor dysfunction, Gastroesophageal reflux, chronic constipation, abdominal pain and swallowing disorders. And Parents/caregivers are encouraged to observe the following when feeding a child with cerebral palsy; Promote a high-fiber, low fat diet to avoid constipation, Provide a well-balanced diet consisting of meats, cheeses, beans, potatoes, whole grains, green vegetables, oils, fruits and plenty of fluids and Substitute with juices or smoothies for healthy calories and vitamins when solid foods are not possible.
